Outreaches involves providing professional services, or services of a specific expertise, to a group of people who may not otherwise have access to those services. It is performed where those in need are located.
Every year AHIP conducts free medical outreach in collaboration with Islamic medical association of Nigeria and targeted LGA in order to conduct malaria and HIV testing for Almajiris and to give free medical treatment as part of AHIP contribution to public health in Kano state. The objective of the medical outreach is to intervene on the rounds of malaria outbreak among the almajiris and other children in the community as well as women.
Out of School programs
School Engagement: Established Integrated Family Life and HIV/AIDS Education into schools’ curriculum and scheme in Kano and Jigawa including developing version for Islamiyya schools. Working in partnership to advocate for quality education, accountability, reduce drop out in Kano state. Also promoted Peer to Peer learning in schools, using safe-space learning.
Safe Space/Inclusive Education
AHIP introduced safe spaces for young people in Kano, Bauchi, Benue, and Borno. This program used a strategy that trains young leaders who become mentors of a cohort of 15 to 20 girls or boys. Meetings/learning sessions are held weekly or bi-weekly.
It takes six months to one year to graduate from a cohort. Participants expected positive social reorientation while building self-esteem, other life-planning skills, and income-generating or entrepreneurial skills. The program runs in communities, secondary schools, and tertiary institutions.
