Edutainment

The drama troupe-just like the saying goes “all work and no play makes jack a dull boy”.  Edutainment is a particularly useful strategy that entails the “process of purposely designing and implementing a media message to both entertain and educate, in order to increase audience’s  knowledge about an educational issue, create favorable attitudes, shift social norms, and change overt behavior” (Singhal et al., 2004).  Edutainment carries an operation on the society to expose the issues surrounding the society and most times profound solutions for the problem(s) if any, and shows or gives way forward in form of drama, film, arts, games and so on. The idea of using edutainment is not an end unto itself, but a means of getting people to talk about the issues, this is why AHIP made it our business to propagate some of the issues in our society at large through the AHIP drama troupe. This unit through entertainment reaches out to the young people by producing educational films that borders on the lives of the young people.

The unit also uses young people in the drama to impart positive moral lessons. AHIP’s  possible outcome is to create a change in attitude on the issues exposed in drama, the information on a particular issue like, HIV/AID, STI, and Teenage pregnancy is addressed.
